1. Will you draw the shape before you start?

The answer should be yes, with as many adjustments as you need. Anyone who starts without a drawn and approved shape is deciding your face for you.

2. What technique suits my skin, and why?

Oily skin blurs fine hair strokes within a year. A studio that recommends shading for oily skin is telling you the truth even though strokes photograph better.

3. Can I see healed work, not just fresh photos?

Fresh work always looks sharp. Healed photographs at four to eight weeks show what the artist actually delivers.

4. What is your hygiene protocol?

Needles and blades should be opened in front of you and disposed of after one client. If you cannot see the packaging opened, ask.

5. What happens at the retouch, and is it included?

Brow and lip work is a two-appointment process. Ask what the retouch covers and what it costs before you book the first session, not after.

6. Which pigments do you use?

You do not need to know the brands, but the artist should. Pigment choice is what decides whether your brows fade warm, grey or true.

7. What will you refuse to do?

An artist with no limits is a warning. Pregnancy, active skin conditions, unrealistic corrections and thick liner on hooded lids are all reasonable refusals.
